Some Sins from the New Testament

Ringing out the False, Ringing in the Truth I woke up this morning, January 1, 2009, considering truth. What is and isn’t truth, how do we get to the truth, who decides what is true and what isn’t, etc. Then I opened up the electronic card my mom sent me and this was what was written there: Ring
out the old, Ring in the new This really struck a cord with me, especially given where I am at in my life and what I was thinking on this morning. So, Truth, what is truth really? Truth exists regardless of view point or relative opinion; Truth is reality based on actual facts proven by the presentation of evidence. It seems quite obvious that the Bible uses numbers in patterns. Who can deny that 40 is significant. Jesus was in the desert for 40 days and the Israelites wandered in the desert for 40 years. Whether or not the analysis of these number patterns are accurate is up for debate. I do however, find it interesting that the first thing on my mind this first day of 2009 was what is true and what isn’t and who decides what is true, or how do people decide what is true. Just for curiosities sake, I took a look to see what many think the number 9 means in the bible. I found that it is considered THE NUMBER OF JUDGMENT. There are 9 greek words derived from the root word meaning judgment = dikay. The following words each occur 9 times in the Bible: abussos (bottomless pit); asebee (ungodly); aselgeia (lasciviousness); and astrapee (lightning). The gifts of the spirit are 9 in number (1 Cor. 12:8-10): the word of wisdom, the word of knowledge, faith, healing, miracles, prophecy, discerning of spirits, tongues, and interpretation of tongues. I also found that some believe it to be the number of the ordained, fullness of God’s plan and others fulfillment and completion. Some believe that it represents Judgment, Finality, End, End of an Age or Era, The Physical Manifestation of the Fruit of the Understanding (good or bad), Tribulation (birthing of the fruit). (As a side note, do you know what 2000 means? In Hebrew it means “dangerous, near to falling.” In Greek it means “wealth, utter destruction.” Just found that interesting. I couldn’t find what 2009 was supposed to mean. Again, I’m not sure how much of this means anything. I guess that can be a truth to seek out at a later date, huh?) Regardless, it was interesting to me that I was questioning who gets to decide (judge) what is true and how do people decide (judge) what is true. For me, it has always been going back to what God’s Holy Word, the Bible, says, so in essence to me, it would be the ordained, fullness of God’s plan for us. I think of it as a compass which always shows what is true north. But so many people have taken scripture out of context from the Bible and used it to prove their truth. I’m sure I have even done this myself at one time or another. Over time, as that “truth” is repeated over and over, it is just accepted as truth, even though if studied within context, it would be discovered that that truth wasn’t really the whole truth after all. So in 2009, I want to seek out truth and to begin doing that, I’m going to take a look at some “new truths” I have learned over the past 3 years. And maybe I’ll visit some “old truths” also. The whole point is to figure out what is the real truth and what have I been conditioned to accept as the truth without it being based on actual facts proven by the presentation of evidence. One Bible verse CAN be a presentation of evidence, if the context around it supports what is being proved. I do not intend to offend anybody, although, when someone says that, you can rest assured that they will. Like the saying goes, “Truth hurts sometimes.” I want to get to THE truth, not MY truth. I’m just going to post things randomly as I think of them. Then I’ll post the title of each new topic as a link on the side panel. So, let’s Ring
